Barbara De Vivi

Her practice is centred on the hybridisation and superimposition of images, and on their ability to survive over time and re-emerge in new contexts. In her paintings the artist relates traditional iconographic motifs to personal concerns and to an imagery rooted in contemporary aesthetics, outlining stories that remain open and fragmentary while drawing on a shared cultural heritage.
Barbara De Vivi graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice in 2018 after taking part in the Erasmus+ programme at the Complutense University of Madrid. In 2017 she was a resident artist at the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice and won the Combat Prize. In 2018 she won the Euromobil Under 30 Award. In 2021 one of her works was selected by the curator Chus Martínez for the Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo Collection and presented to the public in the exhibition Painting in Person, under the patronage of the Castello di Rivoli Museum. Since 2021 she has been based between Venice and Newcastle upon Tyne.
