Alessandro Aprile

Alessandro Aprile’s research has to do with folklore and with a sacredness typical of his place of origin: the statue of the saint carried in procession, the Easter illuminations, the games invented and the childhood scenes used to fight the heat and boredom. The desire to find an expedient runs through his pictorial research, and in his works he always feels the urge to evade specific limits and rules, experimenting with and testing every device he uses.
In his latest cycle of paintings he borrows the Sicilian marionettes and theatrical settings of his native land, departing from the narrative of street puppet theatres. In his paintings he forces the narrative scene, creating a paradox between the unreality of the Pupi and the narrative representation of the actions.
