Gabriele Ermini

“The works of Gabriele Ermini (Florence, 1996) also thrive on this complexity of the painted surface, in which signs of different kinds coexist meaningfully and classic colours mix with airbrush and other techniques. The human figure is often at the centre of the scene in an almost sculptural way, rendered in acid, often flat colours but deformed in a manner similar to what can be obtained with computers or digital animation.”
Gabriele Ermini’s work is characterised by an intent to search for what is possible in painting, moving within the inexhaustible limits of the canvas. Avowedly figurative, Ermini’s painting nevertheless remains focused on the act of painting, almost as if the figures were merely its pretext. It is a painting made of bodies, shapes, signs, symbols, colour fields and graphic elements, characterised by the often simultaneous use of several techniques and tools – brush, spray, airbrush – in an attempt to develop and sustain a formal research at war with the rhetoric of painting.
He graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence in 2020 and, in the same year, in Intaglio Printmaking Techniques at the Fondazione Il Bisonte (Florence); he is currently enrolled in the two-year master’s programme in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna.
