“With Mattia Sinigaglia (Castiglione delle Stiviere, 1989) we return to the world of nuanced, poetic painting in which magic, myth and scientific research mingle in an enchanted way. In his case too, as with Jimmy Milani, there is at times a recourse to three-dimensional shapes that interact with the painted surface, albeit with different results. Colours blur and mix in a dreamed and dreaming reality, composed of symbolic elements as well as graphic signs.”

— Antonio Grulli, Salon Palermo

Mattia Sinigaglia works with painting and drawing. He paints on paper and canvas and uses velvet, wax, wood and ceramics. His work stems from a deep interest in art history and in the symbolism underlying magic and esoteric practices, but also from a fascination with scientific knowledge. His practice is marked by an alternation between figure and aniconic geometric detail; he reflects on the relationship between form and figure and on the shifting dominant role each can play within the work. In his paintings the artist often creates a tension between the image and the space it occupies, a space not always clearly defined, without a single perspective; the idea is to offer the viewer an atmosphere in which figuration is sometimes clear and sometimes dissolves into a metaphysical space.
