“In the case of Sabrina Annaloro (Palermo, 1989), the subjects sink into a mythological, archaic and timeless dimension, immersed in a surreal style and atmosphere with a strong narrative potential. She draws a lot from exotic and oriental-style paintings. Her scenes often show the body subject to processes of transformation and metamorphosis in which the boundary between man and nature, and that between man and animal, disappears completely.”

— Antonio Grulli, Salon Palermo

Sabrina Annaloro’s pictorial research draws on primary impulses and has to do with bestiality and the grotesque, in a uniquely feminine dimension, a system open to contamination and involved in constant processes of transformation. She is interested in the sacredness of the body but also in her subjects’ dis-belonging to time and space. Between displacement, ecstasy and daze, her human subjects seem to be in the grip of a pictorial hallucination, and with her visions the artist tries to give life to new relationships that put the parts and the whole back into play.

Bio

Her approach to painting has always been marked by long breaks, as have her artistic studies. But between one alienating job and another that took up most of her day, moved by the primordial instinct of a hungry predator, she went in search of painting as nourishment, a bulimic and euphoric nourishment that she obtained through the most palatable forms of art. Having abandoned hectic city life, she currently lives and works in the countryside, where the radiant light and the continuous, luxuriant vegetation provide the perfect environment in which to develop and fertile ground for her artistic production.
