Silvia Capuzzo

“Silvia Capuzzo (Merano, 1996) is the most “abstract” artist in the exhibition. But her broad, sinuous brushstrokes, from which a love for the painterly material emerges, continue to cling to reality and representation. Bodies move fluidly through the scene and are rendered with few details: above all, one sees arms, which take on a central role. It is a virtuoso and apparently fast painting, in which the alienating point of view and the enlargement of parts of reality contribute, together with the way of painting, to the creation of the final result.”
At the centre of her experiments are the everyday and the conventional, and her paintings, as well as her sculptures and installations, are a sort of mapping of what surrounds her. The artist observes and investigates reality, enhances detail, focuses on what often goes unnoticed and is often forgotten; she investigates matter in its intrinsic qualities until she grasps its essence, identifies with it, describes it, and her art becomes a moved participation in life. Human bodies, animals, objects: everything is enlarged and deformed, acquiring a superhuman, hallucinatory and alienating connotation; playful and grotesque aspects combine in a painting that enters the heart of the object, in a work always stretched between abstraction and figuration.
She took her first steps at the art high school in Bolzano and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino, where she found the ideal dimension in which to weave the texture of her artistic experiences. In 2021 she was among the prize-winners of the Premio Lissone for painting.
